Evangelical Catholic Church Wades Into 'No Confirmation' Battle (1)

In the last few days we here in CW have covered the story of the young man refused confirmation by his local priest because he had supported a marriage equality poll on Facebook (link here).

Well in very recent developments, the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Catholic Church in America, Bishop James Wilkoswki made contact with the father of the young man concerned and has offered to administer the sacrament of confirmation.

Queue the unleashing of communications from the Bishops Office in the Diocese of Crookston in rather characteristically Catholic but unChristian fashion intimating and akin to threatening behaviour.

A statement issued by The Evangelical Catholic Church Diocese of the Northwest is as follows:

Bishop offers Sacrament of Confirmation to young man

denied the sacrament for posting endorsement of

marriage equality on Facebook.

Bishop James Wilkowski, Evangelical Catholic Bishop for the Diocese of the Northwest, has offered to provide the Sacrament of Confirmation to Lennon Chilak of Barnesville, Minnesota after he was denied the Sacrament by his Roman Catholic pastor after Mr. Chilak published his endorsement for same-sex or gender-common marriage on his Facebook account.

This morning Bishop Wilkowski spoke with the father of Lennon Chilak to apologize for the pastoral and sacramental marginalization that has taken place and emphasized that such actions have no place within the sphere of any Catholic jurisdiction.
