Bundoran hails Bishop McDaid

A County Donegal town recently paid a special tribute to one of its most famous sons as he returned home to celebrate mass for the first time as Bishop.

Bishop Liam McDaid was ordained Bishop of Clogher last summer, and this week he visited his home town of Bundoran to celebrate mass in the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea in the town.

Speaking at the ceremony Fr Raymond Munster parish priest of Bundoran said that parishioners, “are delighted to welcome Bishop McDaid back to his home town for his first official visit as Bishop.”

“He went to school here and returned here at all times for holidays.  As a young man Liam McDaid was very much part of the parish sporting folklore.  He was a member of the Saint Joseph's team that won the All-Ireland club championship in 1968.”

He reminded those present that Bishop McDaid has always been very much associated with the redevelopment of the church in Bundoran in his former capacity as secretary to the Bishop.

A number of presentations were made to Bishop McDaid by local organisations in the town and he was accorded a civic reception by Bundoran Town Council.
